Why Be Offended | That Whole Forever 21 Ordeal
When I heard the drama about Forever 21 giving protein bars to customers who bought online orders, I wasn't surprised. There excuse was that sometimes they ship out little "gifts" to online shoppers (I have shopped there for years and have never received a gift) and that plus size and standard size shoppers received the bars. On Twitter I saw that women who did not order from the plus size section also received the bars as well. So why are me mad?
The only thing that is annoying to me is that the media is making it seem like all the plus size shoppers are in an uproar because of these bars. Or making these misleading titles like the website Betches. "Is Forever 21 Fat Shaming Their Plus Size Customers?". *insert eye roll* First of all plus size shoppers were not the only ones receiving it, so again, why are we only pointing out the plus size shoppers like we're BIG mad....we're not. Well I'm not at least. Making it seem like we're the ones with the problem, they love to make it seem like we're always complaining and never happy.
Now when it comes to Forever 21, I get it, you make a deal with a third party to market their stuff. Being a fashion store why not give away jewelry, ,makeup, or a coupon for a certain percentage off another purchase. Who wants to try on clothes with a protein bar staring them in the face. Or at least send out an email stating that all online consumers will be receiving a gift. Sometimes I think companies do dumb shit just so that their name is in the media and they get free publicity. Eh, who knows. Forever 21 did release a statement with Jezebel:
“From time to time, Forever 21 surprises our customers with free test products from third parties in their e-commerce orders. The freebie items in question were included in all online orders, across all sizes and categories, for a limited time and have since been removed,"
“This was an oversight on our part and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused to our customers, as this was not our intention in any way.”
In my opinion Forever 21 has been going downhill anyway. I have stylish and trendy blouses from them from years ago and the stuff they have now are totally different. Now they basically sell only crop tops, cheap material clothing, ill fitting clothing.material or they slap the Cheetos logo on a shirt and call it fashion.
Overall, Forever 21, don't send unsolicited diet bars, shit is inconsiderate as hell to plus size and standard size shoppers. Also, pick your battles people. This was NOT just a plus size thing, this was just a dumb ass decision a company made. Next! *shrug*
